Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Hello all,
Just diagnosed vvd and here comes my story. Sorry it's a little bit long Sleep rabbit
Actually I had the symptoms ever since I had my first sex; but at those days I thought like, well sex is something painful and not for joy. During years I had two terrible yeast infection and every time burning feel went worse. Finally, for about 5 years I'm officially off the sex Crying or Very sad
In the meantime I went to see different doctors and they all said it's all in my head or I'm vaginismus. But I felt something's wrong down there and it felt like the problem was something physical.
Finally 2 months ago I went to the most popular vulva prof and he diagnosed vulvar vestibulitis syndrome and told me to consider the surgery since other conservative treatments probably won't work for me.
Of course I burst into tears and felt sooo incapable. It felt like I'm no woman anymore and incapable of doing the fundemantals of being a woman Crying or Very sad
Then one of my friend suggested another doctor who's working on vulva disorders as well but not so assertive as the previous one.
With hesitation and fear I went to see him. He was a very friendly and cheerful doctor. He simply had my story written and then examined me. As opposed to the other doc, he never did the q-tip test. He examined me by touching the vestibule area and inserting his finger into me. He inserted his finger and asked whether I felt the pain when he moved his finger or not. The pain was there when he moved his finger, but once he stopped (yet still the finger was in me), no pain at all. He finished his examine and told me that I have provoked vulvodynia and he could cure me 99,75%. That was unbelivable!! I told the other doc's suggestion and he simply said that no need for surgery cos the affected area is small and I had no pain when the object was not moving. He had another patient with the same symptoms and cured her within 3 months! I burst into tears again but this time for happiness! cheers
He prescribed me Lyrica 75 mg for every morning, Laroxyl 25 mg (antideppressant) and oestrogen cream and kegel exercises for every night!
By the way, I have 2 bulged discs on my lomber spine that affects my left foot and I've been taking Lyrica for discreasing the neuropathic pain on my foot for almost 5 months but since I never attempted to have sex or even touched my vestibule before I went to this wonderful doctor, I don't know its effects so far.
I have to add that my neurologist told me not to quit taking Lyrica immediately even the pain on my foot left because the nature of nerve pain has a rebound effect and the pain would get back to me even worse. So he suggested to decrease the dosage of Lyrica. I was taking 25 mg of Lyrica and preparing to quit when I went to my vulva doc. So I strongly suggest you, who are taking Lyrica, to talk this issue with your vulva docs.
Now I'm doing everything as my doc told me and can't wait to see the solution! After the first week of my treatment, now I have my period so I don't know if it worked so far.
I know what it means to live with this nightmare and pray for the happy ending for all of us.
My very best wishes.

I'm hopeful!! Empty Update

Post  burningturning Tue Oct 01, 2013 11:29 am

Hi everyone,
Just to update my current situation.
I've been in the treatment since September 11. I still feel the pain when touched but not as deep as it was before. Still I'm not ready for sex.
Frankly, I believe oestrogen cream and reverse kegels are the golden shots of my treatment. My pelvic floor is so tight and I'm working on it.
Reverse kegel that I'm doing is to push the pelvic down like you're straining, just the opposite of kegel exercises. The aim of reverse kegels are to lenghten the muscles as much as possible. Besides, I'm trying to stretch the vagina opening with my fingers but it's soooo much hurting so I'm not there yet.
And I rinse my vagina after urination just to relax and tapping the area with soft toilet paper. I make sure not to leave the are wet due to possible yeast infection.
I can wear jeans and tight things like leggings without pain after 2 weeks and even this is a success for me.
I heard that squartting also lengthen the pelvic muscles but I have to check it with my neurologist first just to make sure it won't damage my bulged discs.
I believe I can beat this, we all can beat this. No reason to be upset or angry. I consider this condition as a challenge. It's a challenge which makes me strong and courageous. If this treatment won't work for me, I'll go with another one untill I'm 100% cured, there has to be a treatment works for me.
Most of all, don't give up believing, mind and body work in a perfect harmony, we shouldn't mess with this coherence.

I'm hopeful!! Empty Update 2 - My gyno was right, GREAT PROGRESS!!

Post  burningturning Tue Oct 08, 2013 11:56 am

Hi all,
This forum has became my Vulvodynia diary so I update my current situtation.
In all honesty, I can't believe the improvement. There've been 27 days since I was put in this treatment and it works very well!
As I mentioned in my previous post, I place my middle finger inside and do reverse kegels for 10 times after putting oestrogen cream on vestibule.
First three days, the pain was intolarable. I hardly put my finger and did reverse kegels. After this exercise, I was on fire for 30 minutes.
However, with the 4th day of this treatment, I realized that I put my finger easier, but still experienced fatal burning after exercise. I was feeling like more I did this exercise, faster the pain went away.
Now, as of this saturday, I easily place two fingers inside and do the reverse kegels for 20 times and strech the vaginal opening. I still feel pain just on 6 o'clock side of vestibule, but now the pain's 5 over 10.
I remember that my gyno'd said that there should be a mobility inside and my vagina must be accustomed to movement so it'll eventually remember that there is no harm having something inside.
Yesterday, I decided to move on and inserted, moved and even removed my two fingers and did all these repeatedly for 10 times with no pain!! And this's supposed to be the second phase of my treatment, my gyno don't know it yet and I'm sure he'll be surprised with this improvement. I can't wait to see him!
Good luck to all of us!
Love,

burningturning

Hi burningturning - so pleased that you're feeling better. Hope it continues! Very Happy

I wasn't clear from your posts - have you explored the possibility of your disc problems being the possible cause of your vvd, especially if its lower back?

Hi Loulou, thank you sooo much for your good wishes I love you
I suspected that my bulged disc on lumbar spine (L4 and L5) may be the cause of V. But my problem with my discs started last year in December, however I have V since my first intercourse. However when I was 10 or 11 I felt down while skating and damaged the sacrum. My neurologist suspect that this may be the cause of my disc problem since I'm too young to have lower back problems (I'm 28 years old). Maybe when I felt down and damaged sacrum, it somehow affected the pelvic floor and damaged it and it seems indeed a very reasonable possibility.
I talked it with my gyno and he said it might be possible. This's why I'm in a combo treatment.

this is so strange, 4 days after my Vestibulitis/ vulvodynia diagnosis, I was also diagnosed with sciatica !
Maybe there is a general correlation between the two.
but my god, so happy you are getting better with this treatment, it means there are solutions for this illness.
Please keep posting to let us know !

mary jane thank you soooo much! Definitely I'll keep you posted Smile
I agree with you, there may be a correlation. May be the same nerves supplies pelvic floor.
But I think we should consider this as an advantage, at least probably we've found out what caused our V. If this's a pelvic floor disorder, we should go with a treatment in order to correct this disorder.
As to me, I definitely feel that reverse kegel exercises are the most important part of my treatment.
Besides, I don't think this is an illness. I treat this condition as if it's a flu, so simple to cure.
At the end of the day, I'm thankful that my life isn't at stake with this condition. There are many women suffering from terrible diseases and many of them are not curable.
This way of thinking helps me a lot. May be I'm too much Pollyanna but I think if body realizes that mind actually does not believe in healing, the condition converts something incurable.
My best,

it sounds perfectly reasonable to me, for example depression attracts a host of illnesses, whereas a happy and peaceful mind will work against those same diseases.
let's not forget how some have had a remission out of the blue !Smile

Hi,
I have a disc bludger at l4 l5 and nerve irritation/impinging on the l5 nerve down my right leg, this started about a year and a half ago. I already had v before that three month ago I had a nerve block at l4 l5 and the pain has gone I was able to have sex with no pain and no burning after (this was great because I was on my honeymoon at the time) after 3-4 weeks the sensation came back in my leg but my v symptoms are much better! However my job is a little crazy and if my back and leg are aggravated my v symptom are worse. Sex can be a little painful on entry but nothing compared to the raw burny sensation it used to be .

Hi Sunflower,
Do you do low back exercises? I'm doing them twice a day since March and it really helped my back pain. However, as to my neurologist, nerves have memory. Even the pressure on the nerve is gone, due to its memory, I still feel the burning feeling on my left foot. It doesn't bother me that much, I can live with that Smile
I'm so glad you're fine in terms of your V and you seem to find your relief.
I'm sure we'll all find our relief just some of us don't find it yet.

I'm hopeful!! Empty update after a long time

Post  burningturning Sun Apr 27, 2014 7:56 pm

Hi everyone,
It's been a while since my last post. No progress at all. I'm still on 75 mg pregabalin and 20 mg amitriptyline and I'm stucked with 2 fingers experiment and can't go on. The doctor told me to give a try with a certain position; however it didn't work and I broke up with my boyfriend, so sad.
Last month, during my cycle, I tried to put tampon and it hurt too much. I don't understand, I can put two fingers inside but can't put a single tampon! What's the catch? Am I missing something? I'm so confused and frustrated frankly.
I'm doing some research on boric acid nowadays. Does anyone ever use it and if so, does it work? Worth to try?
I'm desperately looking for other alternative treatments and I think I'm going to change my doctor.
If only pain level go down 3 or 4 over 10.. It'd be a miracle.
Fingercrossed

I'm hopeful!! Empty ..

Post  lavrose Wed Apr 30, 2014 11:48 am

Start with one 00 capsule full at night. Wait a couple of days and see how it makes you feel. Ill post some links on women using boric acid with success..-
Get some empty gelatin capsule off amazon, and get HUMCO BORIC ACID POWDER..its not more than $10..
I also get my Boric Acid at my local drugmart, for $4, in the first aid section, Start with one capsule at night for seven days, and see how you feel.Boric Acid can be quit strong for some people, so build yourself up to 2 later on if you want. Whats also nice about Amazon is you can read others reviews on the Boric Acid, their have been a lot of other women who used it too, it was always encouraging for me to read other peoples stories, it kept me going..

Heres some links and clippets od information:: "
According to Rosemary Gladstar's book Herbal Healing for women she had a friend who had horrible yeast infections during pg and whose midwife told her to use the boric acid remedy. The midwife told her there would be no side effects. In the book she says to insert two 00 caps of boric acid (approx 600 mg of boric acid powder) deep in her vagina--it will burn and be uncomfortable for the first two days. It is recommended to do this at night before bed because of the discharge. After 7 days the infection should be gone.""-

www.gentlebirth.org/archives/yeastSP.html ""-Boric acid is a white, crystalline chemical substance that has antifungal and antiviral properties. It is used in various prescription pharmaceutical products and is also available without a prescription. Some experts now recommend vaginal boric acid capsules as a treatment option for vaginal yeast infections, particularly infections that can't be cured by antifungal yeast infection medicines.1

If you are pregnant, do not use vaginal boric acid treatment.

How do I use boric acid?

You can make your own boric acid suppositories by filling size 00 gelatin capsules with boric acid (about 600 mg). Standard yeast infection treatment is one capsule inserted in the vagina at bedtime for 7 days. For treatment of recurring yeast infections, standard yeast infection treatment is done for two weeks, and then boric acid can be used twice a week for 6 months to 1 year.""-

""_Alabama from Toronto, Ontario: "I suffered for many many years from chronic vaginal pain. 8 years in fact. It was cyclical. It started on day 7 of my cycle and ended near menstruation And nobody ever knew why as I never had psoitive tests. (Now From reading the V BOOK I learned that estrogen was responsible for make yeast proliferate in women who were susceptible). Until one day I was simply been put on the progesterone only birth control pill (which did eliminate the symptoms immediately for 8 years! ) because they thought I was having an allergic type reaction to my own estrogen.

Now I tried everything in those years. Everything. Nothing worked but the pil. But when I came off it to become pregnant, within a year or so my cycling went back to normal and my pain began again. I tried to go back on the pil but it didn't work. I saw countless doctors, had vaginal anaesthetic needles inserted with pain blockers done during ovulation and was given powerful pain creams (because all my tests came up negative for yeasts except 1) Not only did these creams not work but they made things worse due to the chemicals in them.

After a year , I had no success and only one positive yeast test and I had a very sour milk smell all the time except during my period. So my doctor suggested that it could be cyclical yeast that lives in the walls and hard to detect. Whatever....... I just wanted some relief and all the yeast creams aggitated me due to the chemicals and the moisture from them dripping out during the day made the yeast proliferate and irritated the already very irritated vulvar skin. And the medications were just too hard on my liver and I had bad side effects.

So we decided to try boric acid. I started with the empty gel caps 1x a day and it burned so badly it actually bleached my underwear three nights in a row. I tried vaseline and oil to protect the outside but it didn't help. Nor did pads. I didn't want to spend a fortune on custom suppositories so I called them up and asked them the ingredients. A basic wax or oil with the boric acid. THAT"S IT? I can do that. I researched oils that were candida friendly and two jumped out.......... Olive and Coconut. So I started making my own in icecube trays. This was so cheap, chemical free and also protected my vagina from the harshness of the boric acid. Also the cold is soooo soothing! I put a pad on at night for leakage and one during the day and try to go without underwear whenever possible for a breather.

I did this for 3 weeks everyday and it dissapeared withing days. Only to return the next month day 7 as usual. So repeat. Then repeat the following month. Then I added pro b probiotics(drug store no prescription) specifically made for your vagina as it is a great misconception that acidophilus from yogurt helps your vagina........... IT IS NOT EVEN THE SAME STRAIN! And in fact yogurt in the vagina can make yeast grow more due to the sugar lactose. ( the V Book) It is wonderful for your digestive tract though. And I added a controversial element, a mild cortisone cream in a petroleum only base I had compounded as the other cortisones had chemicals that just irritated me. When you are irritated and swollen almost everything makes in worse especially harsh chemicals (the V book). Cortisone can make yeast grow sometimes but I only use a bit once a day as needed for inflammation.

It's been 4 months. I need the suppositories less and less. I start day 7 and often do a week then every 2-4 days until my period. My doctor said sometimes it takes a really long time to completely erradicate a stubborn cyclical infection. I see the results slowly but surely. The smell is gone, I can have sex oart of the month and I can live a relatively normal life wth only a few super swollen days as opposed to before when it was 22 days a month I was walking and sitting funny and crying. I am told it is common for 6 months to a year to deal with this so I am on track.. I wanted the quick fix but as long as I see progress I feel motivated, not depressed and in control of my body! Plus I have learned a lot from the V BOOK about good vaginal health, from listening to myself and I saved a lot of money by making my own suppositories (I got the boric acid at the drug store behind the counter in Canada it USA you can get it on amazon.com)

It is slow and steady. BIG LESSON don't try more than one thing at a time or you will not know what is working or not working. And don't see too many doctors, naturopaths etc, too many cooks in the kitchen leads to disasters and conflicting information.... I keep it really simple, no thousands of supplements, diets, meds or doctors! and drink a lot of water so my pee no longer burns and inflames it... Another trick. And I always use natural oils or petroleum for sexual lubricant now.... NO MORE CHEMICALS (except boric and cortisone) will ever touch my vagina again. Good luck and I hope this helps someone out there. Don't give up hope.""-

The Wonders of Boric Acid for Yeast Infections and Bacterial Vaginosis
I get frequent questions about the specifics of boric acid use so I finally got off my ass and typed it up in post format for all to see!

Where do I find it? How much does it cost? What else do I need to make my own pills?

I've always been able to find boric acid powder in pharmacies in the US. (Another vp member made a more elaborate post about her quest for boric acid here.) It's usually in an 8 ounce bottle, and can often be found around the other "home remedies" section (like in with the hydrogen peroxide etc). You want to get a concentration of 2% or less for vaginal use (the stuff that they sell as cockroach killer isn't what you're looking for). If you have any questions about the product you find and its concentration, ask the pharmacist if it is safe to use vaginally.
I last bought a bottle probably 5 years ago and at that time it cost less than $5(US). Eight ounces will probably last you through at least two dozen YI uses (depending on the length of treatment).
Buy some empty size zero gel capsules from the pharmacy as well. (For vegans, there are non-gelatin caps often available at health food stores).
I've also heard people saying that "Yeast Arrest" and other over-the-counter pre-made capsules containing boric acid work, but I've never personally tried that route. Pre-manufactured and packaged capsules are significantly more expensive than making your own.

How do I make the capsules? How long do I use it?

Take it all home and dump about an 1/8 of a cup of boric acid powder onto a flat surface (I use a plate). Open a gel cap and scoop powder into both sides and close it up. Repeat until you've got enough caps for your needs. You can dump the remaining powder back into the bottle for future use.

Insert two gel caps nightly for every night that you're taking an antibiotic (for YI prevention).
For yeast infection and/or bacterial vaginosis treatment insert two gel caps nightly for 10 days (can go up to 21 if the symptoms are still present). This treatment regimen is not set in stone. Monitor your body's cues throughout the treatment and if it seems like your symptoms are gone after, for example, 3 nights of capsules, stop treating then. You can always restart the treatment if the yeasties return.
As far as dosage goes, I can't tell you specifically how many milligrams of boric acid to use per dose because I've never seen that information on the bottle and I suspect that there is some variation from brand to brand.

How do I do it?

Make sure and put the caps in as you're lying down to go to bed. Staying flat helps to keep the powder/gel cap ooze up inside of you. When you get up the next morning you'll need to rinse said ooze off (one day I was late getting up and rushed out forgetting about it and had a very sticky and uncomfortable day).

How does it work? Isn't it poison? Doesn't acid burn?

Boric acid works by reacidifying your vagina and killing off the unwanted fungus and/or bacteria.
I've heard some people here say that they had burning and discomfort from using boric acid, but it's unusual. It is a chemical that is safe to be used vaginally and even on eyeballs, so don't let the "acid" part of it scare you off. If you do have mild burning during the first few days, it is likely nothing to worry about. If you experience severe burning, stop using it!
Even at the 2% concentration, boric acid is mildly poisonous if ingested, do not eat it!

""-Boric Acid Treatment Success for BV
Hello All,
I swore i would pipe up if i ever found anything that worked well, so i'm here to report and share the love...
I have periodically suffered from a combination of yeast/bacterial vaginosis/unhappy hoohaa for some years. I've never know for sure what it was and lab tests are usually inconclusive so it's kinda low grade whatever it is. Many times i will have a lot of itching (mostly kind of external, but occasionally up inside as well) and soreness, particularly after sex. Only once have i had the full on cottage cheese yeast infection. I have tried all the usual monistat potions and diflucan pills, but i have avoided antibiotics mostly b/c the threat of things getting worse is too much to bear.

I was reading about boric acid on here recently and decided to take action because i was having this low grade issue where it was kind of oozing milky discharge and smelling a bit stronger than usual and also sort of farting out silent bubbles of air or gas from my vagina. I felt wet like i'd just had sex, which was not as fun as it sounds. And when i did have sex it would always tear the perineum area.

So i decided i wanted to try homemade boric acid suppositories. The stupid FDA banned the use of boric acid for sale as an over the counter pharmaceutical (though you can still buy pharmaceutical grade BA on amazon) so i bought regular old Boric Acid straight from the bulk bin at Rainbow grocery in San Francisco. It's sold as a laundry enhancer/roach killer. It says 'Not for Internal Use' on the bin which gave me a little pause, but i gathered from them Rainbow folks that it was just that they were required to say that b/c of the stupid FDA. So I called a compounding pharmacy and said say, i am planning on making my own suppositories out of vegetable caps and non pharmaceutical grade BA, the exact stuff you buy to do laundry or kill cockroaches, and putting it in my vagina, what do you think about that? And the pharmacist was very cool and he said sure, sounds fine, thats pretty much what we do. So my last concern was that i had read that it isn't good to put it on broken skin becuase it gets into the blood and is toxic and my skin was kinda broken.

But i did it anyway. I made capsules with a size 00 vegetable cap also purchased at rainbow by just scooping up the powder and pushing the cap shut. Easy as pie. And then i popped one up there as far as i could poke it and went to bed (with a panty liner). I had read to use 2, but i have just used one so far b/c it seems to work.

It didn't burn at all or anything unpleasant. It does make me ooze a watery discharge the whole next day but it's not the same as the creamy milky discharge and then it's gone and i feel way better. The strong smell goes away and the soreness is gone and the itching is gone and the vaginal farting is gone! All for about 15 cents. Seriously, no wonder the stupid FDA doesn't like it. Perfectly safe. People use the same stuff for pink eye washes. Anything you can put in your eye, you can put anywhere else.

The first time fixed everything for a couple of weeks, then i got a little recurrence starting so i did it again , one night, and bam, fixed. So I guess i've done this about 5 times now over about 3 months. I gave some to mi amiga and she tried it and had no problems and was happy with the result. I may try it 3 days in a rom or two at a time or something to see if i can kick it for good, or i can just do this forever, it's so easy.

It makes me screaming crazy mad that simple solutions like this have to be sought through whispers and hearsay like they're black magic. Stupid FDA. The best part is, you don't have to know if you have yeast or BV, works on both. You don't have to go to the doc. It's practically free. It's beautiful. Good luck!
p.s. Boric Acid used to be the active ingredient in Yeast Arrest. But the stupid FDA made them take it out, so the new version of Yeast Arrest doesn't have it. I tried it but the strong smell was off putting. You have to make your own capsules now.
