Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams

Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:49 am by Jet227

I have been to 10 different doctors a total of about 15 appointments for this problem for the past 11 months. I have been tested for everything including having a biopsy. I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Hello,
I am new on here and I will be having a vestibulectomy in a few weeks for my provoked vestibulydinia. I am trying to figure out everything I need and if there are any tips to help ease the recovery? What kind of clothes should I bring to the hospital afterwards? I figured something loose? What kinds of ice or ice packs worked best? Etc... Any tips would really be appreciated! I am nervous for the surgery, but am praying it will help, it is my last option! Thank you all in advance!

Hi Mll2013,

Hope I'm getting back to you before your surgery so you can be properly prepared for your after care! I had a vestibulectomy 4 years ago for my PVD as well. Wasn't easy to find information on how things went post surgery. I have some tips that I hope will help you during your recovery period. First things first, take the time needed to recover, meaning don't rush back into everyday activities before you're ready. I stayed in bed for the first week or so before I started to walk just around my house. I suggest if you're working you take off for at least 3-4 weeks. Something I did was when I did try to walk I kept my knees together...sounds strange, but you don't want to pull stitches from walking around. As far as what to wear/ bring to the hospital, I wore very loose comfortable clothing. I did have underwear, which was 100% cotton. I'm not sure if I brought pads or if they were given to me, but if you're going to be traveling home you'll need a pad, but only if you're traveling otherwise don't wear one - it will irritate you. For ice packs, gel is the best. You can mold them just how you want them. I also filled some ziplock bags with water and stuck them in the freezer. Always keep a cotton towel wrapped around the ice packs you use - they're the most sanitary plus you need a barrier between your skin and the ice pack. Before all of that, you should definitely buy yourself a sitz bath - its a little tub you stick over your toilet that you fill with water to soak yourself in. I wouldn't recommend getting in and out of a tub for a while. You'll risk pulling stitches or get stuck in there. I soaked up to 3 times a day with warm water. You can even put a little bit of salt in the water to help heal your skin and keep it clean. Don't put any soap down there. Also, another thing you can buy are large cotton pads to sit on while you're in bed. They are like the kind you buy to house train your dog. These will come in handy when you have your period. Don't use pads for your period! I didn't start to use pads until after about a month or 2. If you can, try to stay on the first level of your home or somewhere you won't have to use stairs...lifting your legs to use the stair can pull stitches. My doctor told me I could walk backwards down the stairs, that way I don't have to lift my legs as much, but that's not very safe to do - especially if you're alone.

I hope these tips will help you! I'll try to check back here to see if you have any questions. Feel free to direct message me here if you have a pressing question about recovery...I have it set up so I get a notification when someone DM's me.

Good Luck!

-Jen

Thank you Jen! Your info had been helpful. I had my surgery yesterday. In a lot of pain, but hoping it will all be worth it! I was wondering if you remembered how long it was until you could sleep on your side? Also, for your sitz bath did you just use warm water? I tried on earlier and it was very painful, I will try again tomorrow. For now I am just rinsing off with a bottle.
Lastly, I was just curious how are you doing now 4 years after the surgery? Have your pains been resolved?
Thanks again for your previous response, it is nice to have someone to ask questions to

Today is a bad day. I need to have a bowel movement but the pain from the stitches makes it hard to push. It is excruciating. I've been able to go a small amount but am not able to finish. I've not had much blood the last couple days; but now there is a lot. Is this normal?

I'm so sorry to hear that. I've never had the surgery so I can't speak to what is normal. However, from other injuries that I've had stitches with, having more blood as the days go on wasn't normal unless I had a stitch stretch too much or if the blood was actually leftover dried blood that was now washing away. I'm sure it is too painful for you to take a look down there, but that may be the only way to see where the blood is coming from.

As far as painful bowel movements, have you tried using a stool softener? I'm sure they make OTC ones that you can buy, but I also think aloe vera is used for softening stools, which can be purchased at a natural foods store.

When is your next follow up with your doctor?

I hope you heal quickly!
