Post Vestibulectomy Scar Pain

Hi Ladies!

Sorry I have neglected the forum for a while...things had been going pretty well since my surgery, until recently.

I've been experiencing pain on my scar from my vestibulectomy - mainly where the hymenectomy occurred. At first, I had what I believed to be a average yeast infection. I called up the doctor and got the usual, Diflucan. All seemed when after a couple of days accept for this pain on my skin around my scar. This happened once before with my last yeast infection, but cleared up after taking Diflucan. I'm planning on calling my doctor tomorrow to get advice/ be seen, but I wanted to know if anyone else out there who has had surgery has experienced this as well.

I had a full vestibulectomy in January and a revision in May. I have never gotten relief from my unprovoked pain, but lately I feel more flared then ever. When I feel around it seems like my suture line is still hurting me terribly near my urethra. I am so scared something is damaged.

Thanks for your reply! I have provoked vestibulodynia so most of my pain was on caused when something disturbed my area. At the moment it feels like I have unprovoked pain and I'm very discouraged. I'm worried I may have to go under the knife again to get a revision as well. My doctor thinks that it could be a lack of estrogen reaching the area...but I've been pretty much pain free for about 4 years now...I don't understand whats happening to me and I'm terrified. My scar under my uretha is also hurting me...it always hurt even a long period of time after surgery, but only when touched too hard...now it just feels like its burning all the time. The skin around my rectum is also being affected. I'm still having it treated for yeast, but if that doesn't work I'm going to start using an estrogen cream to see if that helps. If that doesn't work I'm going to have to go back down the guessing game treatment road again. I might even make an appointment with my surgeon/ specialist to see if there's anything he can do for me.

Hello, I was wondering if 'scar tissue' and 'granulation tissue' are the same? I have a lot of pain after vestibulectomy, it's my 4th week and I feel worse than the first 3. Is there a way to speed my healing? Or do I have to live with this forever?

To answer your question, no, scar tissue is not the same as granulation tissue. Granulation tissue can be removed so it's nothing to worry about. It's actually common. I actually started to feel worse around the 4th week as well. Don't stress over it, we all heal differently. I would however call the surgeon who operated on you and ask if theres anything you can do about it or if he/she could do anything for you.

As far as a speedy recovery, there's nothing you can do about that. It's going to take time, 2 months is hardly a long time when it means you could potentially have a happy healthy vagina. Just rest as much as possible. Try not to walk too much. Bed rest is the only way you'll ever get better. I stayed in bed for pretty much the first 4 weeks. I had a lot of success because of that.

What steps are you taking to heal? Are you using a sitz bath? Ice? Are you on bed rest?
