Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

I'm sorry im rambling

Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:49 am by Jet227

hey, im 19, ive been struggling with this almost a year. The first week I became itchy I went in to check about a yeast infection another week later. I have been to 10 different doctors a total of about 15 appointments for this problem for the past 11 months. I have been tested for everything including having a biopsy. I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed Empty Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed

Post  emtx Mon Jul 25, 2016 10:30 pm

Hi everyone,

I'm 19 years old and was diagnosed with Vulvodynia after constant pain with no physical reason as to why. They sent me for at least four tests to ensure I had no Sexually Transmitted Infection/Disease, despite me telling them there was no way I could have! I've managed the pain with Lidocaine 5% and painkillers as required. Relaxation techniques have also seemed to help as the doctors I saw believed it was related to stress. I saw a gynecologist last week who confirmed I had Vulvodynia and also referred me for cystoscopy as I always feel as though I have a UTI; he wanted to rule out any bladder issues.

Lately, I have experienced intense soreness and itching around my vulva and vaginal opening due to friction from wearing pads. This accompanied by Vulvodynia has been excruciatingly painful. The doctor prescribed me Clotrimazole to reduce the itching but the soreness remains. Does anyone know of any treatments or home remedies that might help? I'm a Student Mental Health Nurse and I start my placement next month, so I want to ensure I'm fit and healthy!

Another question I have is does anyone know of any good lubricants to use during sex that is good for Vulvodynia? I don't intend to have sex until the soreness has gone completely, but I'd like to find one which isn't going to cause anymore! I've been with my boyfriend for over 3 years and I want to ensure we maintain that side of the relationship.

Thanks in advance. Smile

Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed Empty Re: Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed

Hi emtx,

A good lubricant is an organic UK brand called YES. The waterbased lubricant also helped a lot with my vulvar itching. So it may be worth a try for you even before you have sex.

Epsom salt soaks also help with itching, but they are obviously not the most convenient. Outside of steroids and other creams, I can't really recommend a good itch remedy.

Do you have any physical changes to your vulva, or have you had a biopsy to rule out something like lichen sclerosus(LS) since you have chronic itching? Not trying to freak you out, but I had a semi-recent freak out with being misdiagnosed with LS, so it's fresh in my mind.

Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed Empty Re: Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed

Hi emalita,

Thanks for the recommendation, I'll check it out! Smile I've seen some Aloe Vera ones but I don't know if they're any good for soreness?

It's slightly red but other than that it's pretty normal. The doctor had a look today as I was concerned, and she said she didn't notice anything out of the ordinary and wasn't worried. I think the hot weather and wearing sanitary towels has caused a lot of it. But it's something to remember for the future!

Thank you for your help. Smile

I'd make sure that any sanitary towels you wear are non-fragranced and ideally cotton-based. I found that fragranced towels made my pain worse- they're not always obviously fragranced but if you read the packaging it should say if they are or not. Personally I've not found a cotton/organic/'natural' fibres towel absorbent/leak-proof enough for me, but I find Bodyform (which are non scented irritate me the least). That may be a UK brand though and I don't know where you're based. Towards the end of my (usually eight day) period, I still get a bit sore even though my problems have improved tremendously. But then I think a lot of people would after eight days!

I second the recommendation of YES lubricant. It's also wise to avoid any scented bath/toilet products and use fragrance free detergent on any clothes that are in contact with the affected area.

Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed Empty Re: Vulvodynia - Newly Diagnosed

Post  jjr23 Wed Aug 24, 2016 4:44 pm

Hi emtx,

I use olive oil as lubricant. Mt gynocologist is the one who actually recommended this to me! His area of specialization is vulvodynia so I highly respect his advice. From my experience it's been great. It doesn't dry out as quick as other lubricants and it has a nice smooth and slimey feel to it. I have a bottle of it in my room always, it's my life saviour. If I'm ever ready or willing to try having sex I use LOTS of it and it really helps. It reduces the harsh friction on the painful skin. I'm not sure if it can be used with condoms though. Like the oil might break down the latex. (If not using a condom, the guy loves the feel of the oil too!)
