Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21
Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?
Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie. I live in the UK.
I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia. I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.
I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

Dear All,
I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.
I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

MonaLisa Touch

Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,
I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!
So this is my story:-
I’m 36, and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”. The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help
Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124
Hi everyone,
About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Go See Dr. Andrew Goldstein!!!
Hello Ladies -
I will admit, I have posted some depressing things on here a few times but I wanted to share some positive news with everyone!
Just a recap of my story, I have had vulvadynia for 5 years, started at age 22 during an abusive relationship. The only reason I bring this up is because I went through some traumatic sexual experiences for 3 years with this guy. During this time, I developed "vulvadynia" which as we know is a term that doesn't mean much other than unexplained vulva pain. The pain only affected my sex life and the days following sex. I had extremely painful penetration followed by swelling, rawness and soreness for 4-5 days after sex. But I figured I was allergic to him so when we broke up I was so excited to feel better, wear lace underwear, tampons, and feel sexual again like a normal girl! Instead I felt the exact opposite. 2 years following our break-up I felt worse and worse and worse. I had a few brief relationships but the sex was too painful and I didn't know how to explain to these men why and what was wrong with me because I honestly I had no clue, and dating was not worth it for me. I tried 10 different doctors, was tested for auto-immune deficiencies, biopsied for an inflammatory condition..... I tried so many antibiotics, diflucan, vitamins, diets, xanex, xylocaine etc!!!..... I was finally referred to Dr. Andrew Goldstein and he is an amazing person dedicated curing this condition. First read his book, Why Sex Hurts and it may help you pinpoint your condition. Unfortunately I read it way before meeting with him but did not connect my condition with what he diagnosed me with, but regardless the book is uplifting because it made me feel like I was not alone for the first time. Dr. Goldstein works out of DC and NYC and is expensive and hard to get appointments with, but I am fortunate enough to have been able to get the money together and get an appointment. He diagnosed me with a pelvic floor condition almost immediately as a result of my past relationship, and as I am sure most of you know no doctor EVER knows what is wrong with us to make a confident diagnose in a matter of a few minutes nevermind ever! He said my pelvic floor muscles are extremely tight from anxiety which does not allow blood flow and oxygen to pass through. As a result lactic acid is produced and burns your vulva, along with your anus, intestines, stomach, urinary tract... all symptoms I was feeling but not connecting to my vulvadynia. I now use a topical valium to relax my pelvic floor, I do at home exercises and I have an appointment with a Pelvic Floor physical therapist. I am not 100% yet, but just this one week of valium, exercises and taking deep breaths to calm my nerves in general has made my daily symptoms disappear and allowed me to sleep without being interrupted with vulva pain and spasms. I still have some burning at the entrance of my vagina when touched, but I am very hopeful I will get through this. There are many other reasons for painful sex, but Dr Goldstein has dedicated his career to understanding them and I just wish everyone could meet with him and get through this. It is a one time visit and again, the visit is $1300 plus travel for most of us not in the DC/ NYC area.... but apart from physically feeling better, I am no longer depressed that I will never experience a love life. This condition lays very heavy on all of our shoulders everyday, but please know there is hope. Even if you are only able to afford his book, please read it and try to diagnose yourself and then find a Dr. in your area that will listen to you, read the book themselves and treat you properly, it is a great start! And one last thing, pelvic floor conditions are not only caused by sexual trauma, but also an injury as simple as sliding into 3rd base or lifting something heavy where the muscles tense up, birth control can cause these issues as well, or just stress, depression and anxiety in general. I hope this helps some of you. I will reach out with an update as soon as I start physical therapy.

Good for you
Glad you got some answers!
That's interesting about the lactic acid building up. Thanks for sharing that.
I knew about the lack of blood flow issue, but I didn't think of the lactic acid itself causing the burning pain but it makes a lot of sense.
I've been considering Dr. Goldstein's book, and probably will get it, but I've shied away from him because in internet articles, he's talked about surgery when you've never experienced pain-free sex, and I will never get surgery. It's too invasive for me, and even though I've been in pain all my adult life, I can't do that to my vulva. I know in your case he wouldn't suggest it because you developed it after some traumatic events that caused it.
Can you tell me what the valium is in, what kind of base cream? I have such irritation in my skin that just about anything can burn too much to tolerate. Valium cream is probably compounded, isn't it?
Do you put it directly on the vulva?
I'm just into my second week of physical therapy as well, and have a lot of trauma to work through, but it's been going on for many more years in my case (partly caused by this condition being unrelenting, itself!)
I'll be interested in how it's going with you!

Re: Go See Dr. Andrew Goldstein!!!
The valium is actually a rectal suppository, he said xanex usually does not work for people with pelvic floor issues since there is no blood flow to the area, the xanex never penetrates your pelvic floor. The valium is released directly to the pelvic floor and relaxes the area and for me, I noticed relief instantly. I honestly would still recommend seeing him, you might have just fallen down the stairs or something simple at a young age and not realized it or you may have something completely different that does not require surgery. And I agree, all the creams I tried really made me sore and swollen, but the valium has not bothered me at all besides insertion... not my favorite thing haha!
The surgery is the last option and is only offered (by him) to people with nerve damage. He says if when you touch your belly button you feel the same pain you do in your vulva then you probably have an overgrowth of nerves because those tissues are developed at the same time. So you can test that on that your own simply? And I have heard it is an invasive surgery but it's also something you can recover from in 2 weeks and live a pain free life if that is the solution to your problem?
I would start with physical therapy or yoga and reading his book though, the first step is understanding the root of the problem. Good luck to you and as I said I will keep you updated if I feel 100% again someday!
