Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Hello,

I am just wondering what the difference is between provoked and unprovoked vulvodynia?

I had sex with someone a few months ago and the pain/stinging has been constant ever since. Multiple visits to the GP ruled out any infections and a specialist has since suggested vulvodynia. I'm wondering whether, since it was the sex that brought it on, it would be considered provoked, or since it has been lingering for months it would be seen us unprovoked and more of a chronic issue.

Do people with provoked usually find it settles a few days after sex? And does that fact that mine hasn't mean im going to have this discomfort until i can find the right treatment? And is there any difference in treatment between the two?

I guess provoked would be triggered by all manner of things. Having sex, sitting,going to the toilet and many more but eventually it would calm down. Unprovoked would be a constant pain. I have read so much about this condition and it still baffles me. Apparently you can have both! Last week I had cystitis and I know it was upsetting my vulva. I bought some potassium citrate over the counter and within a short time I was comfortable again.
