Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams

Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

I have been to 10 different doctors a total of about 15 appointments for this problem for the past 11 months. I have been tested for everything including having a biopsy. I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

How long have you been on that dosage? Because I was told that when you settle on a certain amount it could take three to four weeks to start working.

I am taking 1800 daily Gabapentin, it works for me. I take 2 in the morning 2 lunchtime and two at teatime, it works far better for me than Ami, Nora, venlafaxine all these did nothing for me. I know you should see your doctor but I would increase it so the pain stops look up dosage or old post some ladies take higher dosage than us.

How long have you been on it? you may need a higher dosage to numb the pain. I should see your doctor. My advice with the V is to get rid of the pain what ever it takes. Maybe you need something a little stronger we are all different.

Dont be in pain. I feel for you I went through hell and back with pain.

gabapentin Empty GABAPENTIN

Post  ria Sun Aug 14, 2011 5:55 pm

I have seen all the experts paid a fortune even saw a Professor in London as I was misdiagnosed with Lichen Scelerosis (not sure if correct spelling) They didnt know what was wrong with me, I got told it was an allergy, the dermatologist told me to drink some wine and relax. I was furious the pain I was in was constant without any medication at that time. My saviour was GUMED
I called in and they were fantastic understood what was going on. The Professor that I saw did a Biopdy and could not tell me what was wrong, she did the q tip test and ruled out Vulvodynia.

Well 4 years on and I am managing the condition I have not had physio as yet. I do Yoga everyday, meditation and various holistic therapies Reiki ect as I am a Holistic therapist. I take the Gabapentin such a great tablet for me at the moment, I use Estradiol in Emu oil compounded with a pharmacy in America (yes even been to America) My take on this is everyone is different and no one really knows what has caused it all they can do is stop the pain. I do the Biofeedback everyday Howard Glazer and try to keep everything at bay. My Vulvodynia is unprovoked so I have constant pain, at the moment I am wearing jeans. I just remeber now how bad I was writing to you. Sitting on Ice, having aveeno baths thinking my life was over, it was a nightmare. Anyway lets look forward ring your doctor tell them you are in pain and see if they will let you increase the dose if its too bad, as I said earlier do not be in pain it drains you of your very essence. Take care xx Ria Smile Smile

i know it's so frustrating when no one seems to know anything about this!! gabapentin are helping slightly but still have a lot of burning, unprovoked as well so is there most of the time, intercourse is a nightmare but i think thats a secondary condition of whatever caused this, thats what i'm hoping the physio can help with, could put up with the burning if i could just enjoy a normal relationship with my husband. he's very understanding but i am afraid that eventually it will drive us apart or that i will drive him away as sometimes i am hard to live with cause i'm suffering so much. we have a baby of 4mths ( i suffered a lot of pain trying to get pregnant but thankfully was pregnant in a short time) and would really like to try again soon but it's a bit hard if can't have intercourse!! hopefully get some relief soon, how long were u on gabapentin until u got relief, do u take any other medication?

Hi Lisa.

Congratulations on your beautiful baby, so sorry you are having to endure this horrible V. My advice is you have to keep the mind strong ( not easy I know) keep telling yourself you will get better. I have been on the Gabapentin for 4 Months after trying several other meds, it works for me. Also accupunture helps but you have to find a good therapist. Its difficult for you with your baby but you have to try all sorts of different things to get yourself back to some normality. I was a good three years without any diagnosis, no meds, nothing I was in such a dark place, but I used alternative treatments and they did help but nothing took the burning pain away.

I take Estradiol with emu oil, Biofeedback with Dr Howard Glazer (might be worth looking into) you can have a consultation with Howard on skype I feel its worth doing. And there is a new product called Neogyn (look it up) I am trying it out see what happens, some of the other girls are trying it as well. We have to be so careful what we use on the Vulva skin. One thing I have got my head around is that it is the nerves not the vulva skin that is the problem, thats why the Gabapentin is good to stop the nerves firing off. I have unprovocked Vulvodynia intercourse not a problem.

Meditation helps, relaxation is so important. Physio has helped a lot of the other Girls. Just make sure you get the pain undercontrol with Medication then things start to get better for you. You may need to up your dosage, or try something stronger it doesnt matter so long as your pain free.

You will get top side of it but, it takes time.

Look after yourself and your gorgeous baby.

Take care xx Ria Smile

Following this, I've just got a quick question about Gabapentin too...

I've been on it now for nearly a month, and I've not noticed any improvement at all so far, but I'm not too surprised as Ami didn't work for me either.

So, my dilemma is... I have an appointment with my GP on Monday morning, but I've only got enough Gabapentin to get me through today and tomorrow, so I'll have none over the weekend. I was just wondering if it works like Ami and it builds up in your system, and so if I don't take it over the weekend I'll be taking steps backwards?

See, my options are to try and get an appointment today to get some more, which is near impossible at my doctors in itself. Or just wait until Monday morning and see if my GP wants me to carry on taking them or start something new.

As bad as it sounds, I can't justify paying for yet another prescription for 100 tablets if I'm only going to use a handful over the weekend, and then be taken off them on Monday. But at the same time, if she wants me to stay on them, I don't want to take a step backwards.

Any ideas?

Oh, aswell... I'm taking 3 500mg tablets a day. Is that about right? I wasn't sure if you could go up any higher as I hadn't had any effect from it yet. But as well, I don't know if it takes ages, like Ami, or whether I should have noticed something by now?

Most confusing/complicated condition in the world? I think so...
