Suspected Vestibulodynia (not diagnosed)

Hey everyone,

I am 16 years old and I recently have discovered that inserting tampons really hurts near the entrance of the vagina. I have been to the doctors and my yeast infection test results came back negative. I am still a virgin and had a hymenectomy around 6 months ago.

I am getting really stressed and upset about this because whenever I try to use tampons, the pain is VERY sharp and sore; the area feels really raw and looks bright red, particularly on one side. I am too scared to have sex because I know it will hurt so much, and I am very worried that I won't be able to find a cure for this

I've read so many things about how it ruins your life and there is no cure but I am determined to find one. I've booked an appointment with my gynaecologist who performed my hymenectomy, perhaps that triggered this?

I am sorry for rambling so much but I am really upset and am desperate to get rid of this pain

Firstly - don't panic. Yes, there are lots of scary stories on the Internet about women who have suffered for years. But there are also many women whose symptoms resolved - they just aren't so vocal because they are better and don't need to use these Internet forums

See what the gynaecologist has to suggest and take it from there. If inserting tampons is an ongoing problem then maybe a women's health/pelvic pain physiotherapist/PT could help you to train the muscles to be less tense and painful. I'd advise you to stop trying to use tampons until you've spoken to the gynaecologist. And don't think about sex and how painful it might be at this point. Take one step at a time.
