Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams

Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

Thu Feb 21, 2019 5:49 am by Jet227

hey, im 19, ive been struggling with this almost a year. The first week I became itchy I went in to check about a yeast infection another week later. I have been to 10 different doctors a total of about 15 appointments for this problem for the past 11 months. I have been tested for everything including having a biopsy. I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Diagnosed Recently

Tue Jan 08, 2019 3:55 pm by flissyg

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Hello Ladies,

As part of my degree I get to do a women's health unit and need to write an assignment relating to a topic that is a current issue. I'm choosing vulval pain, so killing two birds with one stone, I pass the unit and educate myself on my stupid condition some more!

Its so difficult to find credible research though, especially for the UK (anyone know of the prevalence of vulval conditions in the UK?) If anyone knows of medical papers, clinical guidance or government policies relevant please let me know. I have looked in the research section and that was most helpful Smile

I need to relate it to pregnancy also, has anyone ever gotten pregnant after diagnosis or has pregnancy been the cause of your pain?

Thank you!

Hey there,

You should talk to Julie Mann. She's doing a Masters in health. I'm not sure what her name is on here though. Are you on the FB group?

I have babies - big ones but mine started after surgery :\

Its lovely to know that women can have children normally when diagnosed with vulval pain (even if it is post birth!)

If you feel comfortable (email me if you prefer) could you please give some more info.

What were your birth experiences like?
Did you receive pain relief?
Any complications post birth/did V get worse/better?
What input did you receive from midwives/obstetricians?

Doesn't have to be long or lengthy detail, whatever you feel comfortable in sharing Smile

I am happy to share on the forum - the only people reading this will be people like myself so if I can help someone out then all the better Smile

What were your birth experiences like?
In terms of the vulvodynia the births themselves were not too bad. My biggest fear was tearing and so I used a device called the Epi-No to stretch the perineum which I am sure helped a great deal. I also aimed to have waterbirths - which I did for my first child. My 2nd one was a bit more complicated so I had to get out of the bath but I spent a lot of time in there. I also took my own lubricant ( a natural one with no parabens/preservatives etc that I don't react to) so I didn't have to use the KY Jelly , I arranged that if I did need sutures they would not use betadine and use clorhex and then wash that off with sterile water, and they used powder free gloves. I spoke at length with the midwives about trying to minimize internal examinations during the birth. I had them at a mid-wife led birth center.
The pregnancy on the-other-hand was terrible!!! My largely controlled vulvodynia came back terribly and I had some of the worst episodes of it that i have ever had!!
Also interesting to note - the pain that I felt immediately after the birth was exactly like a really bad vulvodynia episode with the stinging and burning which I think is normal for all women - so vulvodynia can be as painful as having a baby!

Did you receive pain relief?
TENS machine in early labour.
Gas at the later stages

Any complications post birth/did V get worse/better?
My vulvodynia improved incredibly after the birth/s. The best it has ever been.

What input did you receive from midwives/obstetricians?
Minimal input from the staff - I had to inform them more about the condition and request the various things that where put in place. I come from a health background which helped.

Also to note - my babies where quite large at 8.3lbs ( 3.7kg) and 9.5lbs ( 4.32kg).
