Ovestin Cream

Hi all,

I've been prescribed Ovestin (Oestriol) cream for my Vulvodynia symptoms. My Gynae thought it would be worth trying a topical estrogen because my problems began when I came off a combined contraceptive pill and started taking a progestogen only pill.

Has anybody else tried this stuff?

The cream comes with a giant applicatior and I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use it or just apply the cream locally to the affected areas.
What do you guys think?

Ive not used it so if I were you I would give your dr a quick call to find out how to use it

My guess is that if you have mainly pain on the outer skin and maybe just within the entrance to the vagina then there does not seem much need for a giant applicator?

Check it out with your doc tho as you want to make sure you use it correctly

I haven't used Ovestin, but I use Trophicreme, prescribed in France. I think the two are similar. My understanding is that you should use the cream internally if you are menopausal, but just use on your vulva if you are pre-menopausal. If you are not sure of the instructions, you should check with either the pharmacist or the doctor.

I used a simalar cream it wasnt the brand name but it was Oestriol. My gyne just told me to put it on the outside and a little inside. This was when it all first started though and the Gyne was just filling in for the usual one, when she came back (she was completely incompetant) she said there was nothing wrong with my hormones because I was on the pill (when in actual fact the pill screws your homones up!) so I stopped using it. After much reasearch I found the pill could have contributed to my pain in the first place and now I have more of an idea about this conditation oestriol doesn't seem like a bad idea now that I am off the pill.
