Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams
Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21
Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?
Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder
Hi everyone,
I'm a newbie. I live in the UK.
I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia. I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.
I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

Dear All,
I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.
I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

MonaLisa Touch

Hi All,
I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,
I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!
So this is my story:-
I’m 36, and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”. The following morning I woke up …

Hi everyone,
About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. Is anybody else on gabapentin??
My Dr. proscribed me Gabapentin and I'm now on 800mg with still no relief. She says that the maximum is 3200 and that different doses work for different people, although I'm afraid that it will never end up working. I'm afraid this isn't the right medicine for me. Has gabapentin been working for anybody else?? What is everybody else taking that is helping them out???

I did a topical because I didn't want to deal with the side effects but it didn't help. I wasn't expecting it to really either. I would never get on that much of any drug. That is insane.

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
I'm not on Gabapentin but I know you do have to work up to a higher dose than you're taking to know if it works, although it sounds like a massive dose it's no worse than being on the maximum 600 mg of Lyrica which is also an anti-convulsant so keep working up and then you'll know if it works or not. I'm on 450 mg of Lyrica which my doctor at the time thought was a better idea than the Gabapentin the specialist recommended. It's a price issue because Lyrica is more expensive so they try Gabapentin first most of the time. Don't get disheartened yet you're a long way from a big dose right now.

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
I tried it and went up to 3000mg with no relief and a fair number of side effects. Then my doctor took me off it, tapering down at a rate of 300mg a week. What I didn't know was that this was much, much too fast. It can be absolutely demonic to come off, comparable to coming off addictive drugs or alcohol. Even once I was completely off it, it took months for my sleep to return to normal, and six months of insomnia, jitters, gastro-intestinal upset and other symptoms I can't offhand remember are not to be sneezed at. I also started getting convulsive jerking when I was coming off gabapentin, and two years later I still get that from time to time. Please be very careful with this drug. It's heavy-duty stuff.

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
Thank you all for the input. I guess I'll have to stay on until I get to a higher dose to see if it will work. I was born with vulvodynia so my dr said it's much harder to treat, so hopefully i just need higher dose. I have experienced no side effects from this medicine. In fact, it has gotten rid of the frequent headaches I used to get, but it has yet to help my vulvodynia. Guess I have to still be patient. Again, thanks for the input!

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
Hey nelson, I had my first gyne appointment back in April and was prescribed Gaba too. I felt okay on one tablet a day but as I increased the dose I began to feel really weird - a bit kind of hazy with slightly blurred vision and sometimes headaches (although that could've been a coincidence) But every time I tried to take them I definitely had a 'blurry' feeling. They are pretty serious drugs, used to treat epilepsy and all which did alarm me a bit! I personally didn't get any noticeable relief from them. Please don't take my word for it though, it has been a cure for some women so do give it a go unless it makes you feel really funny. X

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
Currently taking 300mg of Gaba 1 at night before bed, I think it helps a tiny tiny bit but I still get flares, and menstration is still a killer. I wwon't really know if it's working unless I stop it completely. May ask for next dose up. I wouldn't ask for the highest dose, gradual is best.

Yeah my doctor is upping the dose on my gaba and I'm going to take it twice a day instead of before bed. Crossing my fingers for a change cause so far I've been been SOL.

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
Heres a little info I found out about Gaba. When taken in low doses it acts as a pain reliever and helps with anxiety, as well. I started out taking 300mg capsules and technically your suppose to start at 900mg for it to have a proper effect. Thats what I was told by the doc. I was taking 300mg, then 600mg, now im on 900mg. My pain still comes and goes and hell week (period time) is still painful but I think the gaba makes the pain lessen, at least for me.
I hope your doing better. Let us know!

Re: Is anybody else on gabapentin??
I am taking 1200mg of Gabapentin. I still have severe pain although not every day. Most days are manageable if I'm not doing anything physical. When the severe pain comes, it lasts for 2-3 days. I'm also taking 150mg of Effexor and using Lidocaine5% Ointment.

re: Is anybody else on Gabapentin?
I was given gabapentin for nerve pain in lower back in 2010 and the side effects were horrible. I had to drop out of university as I had short term memory loss, trouble staying awake, speech slurred to name but a few. It may work for some but I would never take this drug again. Thankfully, I am almost finished my postgrad now!
