Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams

Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

hey, im 19, ive been struggling with this almost a year. The first week I became itchy I went in to check about a yeast infection another week later. I have been to 10 different doctors a total of about 15 appointments for this problem for the past 11 months. I have been tested for everything including having a biopsy. I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Diagnosed Recently

Tue Jan 08, 2019 3:55 pm by flissyg

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

The pain was nothing like I had thought it would be. It's more annoying than painful. It hurts, but you won't be in agony, especially because yours is going to be a partial. Just make sure the person who goes with you brings ice or those instant cool packs because you will be a little swollen right after and It might make it hard for you to go to the bathroom (#1). Since yours is partial that might not be an issue, but you never know. My doctor told me to ice it all day everyday for a week straight, but I did it for 2 or even 3 weeks at times because it numbs the achy feeling you get around week 3. around week 3/4 it'll start to get annoyingly itchy, the ice will also help that. Don't put any topical creams you were previously prescribed down there unless the doctor gives you the ok.

And for me, yeah the surgery/ dealing with the pain and being stuck in my bed forever was totally worth it. I was finally able to consummate my relationship! It's a little uncomfortable, but we're working on it. Plus I'm not fully healed yet. I saw my doctor last week and he said usually sex isn't possible until 6 months, I'm at 4 months. I guess I'm a fast healer or something. BUT I thinking the pains that I'm feeling now with sex will subdue over time. The pain I used to experience on a regular (burning, itching, now being able to wear jeans, constant yeast infection like symptoms) are all gone now. It's kind of weird when you first go "exploring" down there after you're healed. The area where they cut out the skin is completely numb. At first It didn't like that, but it's actually good. Like now I don't even feel a tampon anymore, which is good because before they were really uncomfortable upon insertion and when they were removed.

BTW one thing that I think is worth mentioning...DO NOT LOOK DOWN THERE! It's hard not to because you want to know how it looks after surgery, but you'll be grossed out/ freaked out if you do. Wait till around the 4 week mark to take a look...that's what I did anyway. If you can handle gross stuff I guess you could, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Sorry I should've been more specific about the numbness! Just the area that is removed is numb. It won't effect the feeling during sex because they are only removing skin around the opening area. The reason why it's numb is because the surgeon is removing the nerves that were in that area. When they are removed you loose feeling there, but that's a good thing because that's where there was pain. That's the purpose of the surgery, to remove the nerves that cause the pain, but yours will only be a small area so you will have still have much less numbness, I'm all numb because I got the full vestibulectomy. Don't cancel! You'll have much more feeling than I do. You'll only loose it on one small area. The area that feels good during sex is called the G-spot, which is not effected during surgery. You will still be able to have that oh so good feeling during sex lol.

And about the 6 months thing, that was only for sex. You will be healed enough to do regular activity again by 6 weeks. My doctor just suggested waiting until 6 months for sex, but it was just a suggestion to get the best results. I waited 4 months after surgery to have sex.

Sorry If I freaked you out pale

I totally understand. I was so terrified the days before the surgery. I tired really hard to just act like nothing was happening to me. It kind of worked I guess, but the minute I stepped into the waiting room I was in a panic. I have panic disorder so my nerves were extra crazy. I ended up having my surgery time changed to later in the morning so I actually had to sit there for an extra hour. Plus I hadn't eaten anything so I wasn't feeling so good. Trust me when I tell you all the panic and nerves are not worth it. If I had to do it again it wouldn't bother me as much. The surgery is not as scary as you think it is. Really I'm being 100% honest with you. When you wake up it kinda sucks because your all drowsy, but once you get in the car and go home you'll be fine. Unless your staying over night where ever you're getting the surgery. If you are that might be even better because you can just go right back to sleep. I was in a surgery center in a different state and I had to go home after (an hour long drive). Not fun, but I slept most of the way home.

Just try to stay calm and do everything you can before you're stuck at home for 6 weeks. I had my surgery in the summer so I tried to go to the beach a few times before I couldn't. Go out and have some fun, try to take your mind off the situation.

I don't remember exactly when I started sitting, but when I did it wasn't comfortable. I'd say around week 3 or 4 I started trying to sit, but I had to sit on one butt cheek haha. Sitting will be more comfortable around week 5 or 6.

Wow by day 5 ? Thats great! In my personal opinion I'd give myself as much time in bed as I could. I just feel like the longer you lay down the better the results. Just be careful and don't strain yourself.

Some women had suggested getting a donut to sit on, like one of these:
http://www.amazon.com/Rose-Donut-Cushion-Large-Diameter/dp/B000Y9WQOU
It will feel much better than sitting flat on your butt.

Don't puke! You'll be fine I swear Surprised !

The pain wasn't that bad. It wasn't raw or anything, just kind of achy.... like a sore muscle ache kind of feeling. With the bleeding its nothing like the flow of a period or anything. I know this is gross, but it's like a watered down blood. It only lasts for about a week or two. I'd recommend getting those giant pads to lay on in bed...the ones that look like pet training pads, they make them for people too. It's better to use them than to be laying on a towel because the pad has antimicrobial properties so you won't get an infection.

I swear! It really isn't. If anything you'll have it way easier than I did. You're only getting one small area cut out where as I got the whole horseshoe shaped area cut out plus part of my hymen. You'll do just fine! I know you'll probably still worry no matter what I say, but everything will be just fine. Just rest as much as possible!
