amitriptyline/elavil

I have been taking this for 3 weeks, working up to 30mg with no relief.
Does anyone know how long it takes to have effect/or from experience?
My doctor said it will take months, but from the internet I have read most people get relief in the first month. I know doctors aren't that well informed with vulvodynia, so I am really skeptical.

I am so scared this won't work, I can't live like this anymore.

It's hard to say whether or not it will work for you, but I know from experience, it does take time. I started taking amitriptyline in May. It probably look around 6 weeks before the pain dissapeared. I had gradually gone up to 50mg. Although it is tough, try not to be impatient. I was pain free until just in the last few weeks it has started creeping back. There are also a few different drugs that do the same thing. I was originally taking Endep, and since that stopped working and had nasty side effects (dehydration and urinary retention) I am not on Allegron or Nortriptyline. Unfortunately this medication does not work for everyone, hopefully that won't be the case for you. Hang in there

I am 75mg Ami... i started in January of this year and saw results at around 50mg...it takes weeks to build up dosage and then weeks for it to build up in your system to see results.

Coffee and tea dont work well with Ami... also avoid citrus fruits. Grapefruit is a HUGE no-no.

I got up to 50mg and I'm still on it but for fibro as it didn't help my V, some women get results at a very, very low dose and others don't respond well to it. I get more relief from releasing the muscles in the pelvic floor to be honest.
