Gabapentin Gel. or other topical creams

Thu May 10, 2018 9:43 am by Rosie21

Hi I have been suffering for some years with this abominable pain. I have tried most of the systemic drugs , I asked specialists and Doctors if I could at least try a topical treatment but because this requires a special prescription have been refused Has anybody had a chance of trying these? Thank you I will try to put a link on to some of the research into Gabapentin Gel. Thanks.

Putnams 'bony parts' cushion or Putnams 'Dr Huff' cushion - which is best?

Sat Aug 01, 2015 4:17 pm by Fielder

Hi everyone,

I'm a newbie.  I live in the UK.

I'm trying to work out the best cushion to get for my vulvodynia.  I suspect that I could have pudendal nerve involvement (the aching and burning pain is from vagina to clitoris) and I have rectocele and some tailbone pain too.

I have seen some good reports on older threads regarding the Putnams pressure relief cushions....with some ladies …

An absolute success story- please read!

Fri Mar 08, 2019 10:57 pm by Persevere1990

Dear All,

I posted on here back in March 2017 having just got a diagnosis of vulvodynia after a few months of relentless and acute pain. I was desperate, I was hurting, I was scared I would never know life without pain there again.

I tried creams, acupuncture, numbing gels, frozen pads, baths with various internet recommended concoctions- convinced myself I had lichen sclerosus, herpes, thrush- …

I was first told basically to just go home and use hydrocortazone, then I went …

MonaLisa Touch

Fri Feb 08, 2019 7:35 pm by rl2091

Hi All,

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with the MonaLisa Touch treatment for Vulvodynia? My pain started when I went on HRT(pill) for anxiety mainly and my pain abruntly stopped when I stopped HRT. However, when I started on the HRT patch (at my dr's suggestion), the pain returned and has never left. That was 7 years ago. I found MonaLisa Touch on the internet purely by accident …

Hi All,

I’m so glad I’ve found a place where there are others who understand how I feel!

So this is my story:-

I’m 36,  and 4 months ago, whilst innocently sitting in bed reading I experienced a very sharp stabbing pain in my clitoris. It last only a few minutes and then subsided as quickly as it came on. It put it down to “one of those things”.  The following morning I woke up …

New and need advice and help

Wed Dec 05, 2018 3:26 pm by Cin124

Hi everyone,

About three months ago, I started having vaginal and vulval itching. Then, about two months ago, my vulva started to feel painful and look swollen, so I went to the doctor. I was tested for herpes, chlamydia, and gonorrhea which all came back negative. I also had to do a vaginal swab test and the only thing that came back positive was yeast infection. I was prescribed hydrozole …

Q-Tip Test? Empty Q-Tip Test?

Post  katie220 Wed May 08, 2013 6:48 am

Hey everyone. I went to the doctor on Monday. I discussed my issues with him and he gave me a Q-tip test. He said I don't have vulvodynia or vulvar vestibules because there isn't any pain in a localized area. I also don't feel that uncomfortable when I have physical examinations. There is just a generalized pain that stays at the same level throughout the day and gets worse with sex. This makes no sense! Does anyone know what this is? Do you have to have a positive result on a Q-tip test to have vulvodynia? Thanks!

I know when I had v I would react horribly to a qtip test it would hurt so bad. Maybe yours is more vaginismus or pfd than vulvodynia but omg qtips used to hurt like crazy!

You dont have to have a positive q-tip test to have vulvodynia. A positive test is more common in women who have a type of V called vulvar vestibulitis. Their pain is localized to the vestibule(entrance to the vagina) . Pain with vestibulitis occurs upon penetration or inserting a tampon or speculum or contact with tight clothing or certain activities.. They have the most success with the surgery. Another type of V is Dyesthetic Vulvodynia in which a woman feels burning, rawness, irritaiton, itching anywhere on the vulva. Some have constant pain all the time and sometimes there are brief periods of relief. Some have pain with sex or exams and some dont. You can also have both types of V which I do. I have burning, swelling, all the time. Sometimes I feel a stinging or a poking near the clitoris or labia. Sex is very painful upon entry but then subsides. The pain is worse (THE absolute worse for me) the day after and for several days. Once in a while I will feel almost normal for a few hours but it always returns. For this reason I stopped having intercourse. I figure my body is trying to tell me something if the pain is that bad. I feel I need to give myself time to heal before trying again. There are several good books out there that explain Vulvodynia. One is 'The Vulvodynia Survival Guide" by Howard Glazer. Another is "The V Book" by Elizabeth Stewart and "Ending Female Pain" by Isa Herrera. I have read them all. The self help measures that have given me the most relief are Aveeno Colloidal Oatmeal baths, spraying myself off with cool water after urinating (using an irrigation bottle - like you get after delivery) and the stretching exercises. The most surprising thing that has helped is learning how to breathe using your diaphragm while stretching/exercising and taking the time to deep breathe many times throughout the day to relax. stress makes everything worse. I wish you well!

Hi Katie, unprovoked vulvodynia does not respond to a q tip test unless there's an element of provoked mixed in (often can be) so yes you could have unprovoked generalised vulvodynia, google it and see if it sounds like what you are experiencing.

Q-Tip Test? Empty RE:

Post  katie220 Wed May 08, 2013 7:22 pm

Thanks for the replies! That's kind of what I was thinking. I don't think it's right to judge whether someone has vulvodynia or not from a Q-tip. For the pain my doctor is thinking of giving me Gabapentin. Have you guys ever tried that? My pain goes away when I take xanax so he was thinking gabapentin would be my best bet.

I used it as a topical it didn't work for me, I didn't want to deal with the side effects of a pill. But maybe orally it would work better? Smile
