In college, diagnosed with vulvodynia

Hello,

I am a 19 year old that starting experiencing symptoms about a year ago during a hook-up. I knew something was completely wrong, I had never experienced something that painful in that area. I just recently went to the doctor and he confirmed what I already thought it was, vulvodynia. It took me a while, I spent a lot of time feeling sorry for myself and being negative but I finally went. He prescribed me with some form of combo of lidocane and something else. I was wondering If anyone had any success with this treatment. Also I read up on something about botox helping vulvodynia and I was wondering if anyone had any success with that? I really want to get a hold of this, at this age its very hard to have a normal dating life. Every time I think about dating I just get sad. I really wanna figure this out!

I have chronic yeast infections, but I don't know if this is a direct link to my vulvodynia. I first noticed my vulvodynia after taking a high dose of antibiotics when I had PID. I also have always been really tight in general, even before vulvodynia It would take a little time for me to be able to have something enter me. Also if anyone has any cures to Chronic Yeasts infections that would be awesome! Also a side note I take lexapro and xanax for my anxiety but those have not helped or hindered my condition.

you need to give more details, you are a bit vague. what are your symptoms? What type of pain do you have ?
and don't worry, you're very young, surely you'll get better. And don't worry about dating, focus on your health right now, screw men, they can WAIT ! Dating is fun when you can focus on it without such issues.
You say you're on lidocaine, that's good, what else are you on? Any medication at all ?
when I was your age (I'm 26 now) I had vulvar vestibulitis symptoms (though very mild) and had some pain with intercourse, now I have full blown constant pain recently controlled by medication, and yet I still expect to get BETTER, because that's what bodies do. They try and heal any damage/illness.
Any yeast infections that you know of ? Try taking Optibac, a lady was cured by it.

botox helps vulvodynia in some cases, but it helps vaginismus even more. So if your pain is caused by a tight pelvic floor, it might help, but I don't know if nhs pays for that.

but from my experience, 100 women can all have vulvodynia and yet have different causes, symptoms and cures.
If you;re really desperate, you can see a vulval specialist privately. Like Wendy Reid. but it's very expensive

I think given you were tight prior to V you should definitely find a Women's Health Physio and give that a try too.

I'm in college now too (although my symptoms started at age 17). My condition is provoked vestibulitis, and I was given lidocane as a first treatment as well. I tried it a couple times before sex, and it helped a little but not really. I don't have experience with the botox treatments but I've tried a bunch of others (Lyrica, PT, Estrogen gels) that may help you depending on what your exact condition is. I have heard that one bad yeast infection can trigger this, but there are definitely people on this forum more knowledgeable on that topic than I am. I totally get how hard it is to deal with this in college. Everyone just hooks up all the time and they don't seem to have any issues at all!

I had provoked as well and it started in college too. I tried all the topicals and finally couldn't take it anymore so I had a vestibulectomy a year ago which helped. I also have recurrent yeast infections but hoping im controlling them with azo. Its frustrating for sure.
