In need of Advice!

My name is Amanda and I am new to this site. I have been experiencing symptoms of vulvadynia for about three years now. I went to gynocologist 6 months ago who believed that a skin condition was the source of pain. She prescribled a cream for me but it didn't help at all. When I went back to see her she told me that she was going to refer me to another doctor that specialized in vulvar pain. It took so long for them finally to book an appointment with this doctor and the appointment is this upcoming thursday. Unfortunately, I am expecting to get my period this week as well and I'm pretty sure I will have it the day of the appointment. I don't have alot of experience with these kind of appointments but I am worried that since the doctor won't be able to physically examine me that that the apppoitment might be pointless and the doctor won't be able to prescribe anything that could help my pain. I have waited so long for this appointment and it totally slipped my mind that I would be getting my period that week. I am pretty sure I will have wait months to see the doctor again as he only works one day a week and is usually booked solid. I feel so discouraged right now and I guess im just wondering if it will still be worthwhile to see the doctor and if he will be able to prescribe me anything without a physical examination?

If you use tampons just wear a tampon so they can see the bit they need to. If not they may offer to look anyway and hand you some tissue to wipe the area first, I've had both happen to me and Drs aren't the least bit concerned about it so don't worry. There isn't anything you could be prescribed at this stage to stop your period as far as I know so tampons would be the best option. Remember this is a vulvar doc, they'll definitely have encountered plenty of women on their periods before.
